archives maintained at various locations and get information on
EARN/Bitnet nodes (Network information).

FTP ACCESS
----------

Whenever possible, we respect the following conventions:

.txt ASCII document.

.ps PostScript document.

Whenever possible, we try to provide an ASCII version of
          PostScript documents as well.

.Z Compressed files, using the standard Unix compress utility.

.gz, .z Compressed files, using the GNU compress utility, 'gzip'.

The FTP access supports on-the-fly compression and decompression:

Compressed (.Z) and gzipped (.gz or .z) files can be
uncompressed/gunzipped before retrieval by excluding the suffix '.Z',
'.gz' or '.z' from the filename in the 'get' command. Eg,

uncompress the file 'index.gz' with the command 'get index'

You may also compress or gzip any uncompressed file by adding the suffix
'.Z', '.gz' or '.z' to the filename in the 'get' command. Eg,

compress the file 'resource-tool-guide.ps' with the command
     'get resource-tool-guide.ps.gz'

Likewise, you may tar, and then compress or gzip part of the hierarchy
before retrieval by adding the suffix '.tar', '.tar.Z', '.tar.gz' or
'.tar.z' to the directory name in the 'get' command. Eg,

retrieve the directory 'doc' and its sub-directories with
     the command 'get doc.tar.gz'

Don't forget to set the transfer mode to BINARY.

CONTRIBUTIONS
-------------

Our aim is to provide network users with the information that is of
interest to them.

If you want to add more information to this document store, send your
suggestion to EARNDOC at EARNCC.EARN.NET (or EARNDOC at EARNCC.BITNET).

STAY TUNED!
-----------

More documents and links to other information sources are being added
constantly.
