Subject: New European RSA electronic member directory
To: Multiple recipients of list CERRO-L <CERRO-L at AEARN.BITNET>
Dear colleague,
I have the pleasure to announce the first version of an electronic member
directory of the European Regional Science Association. It is not complete
yet, but we hope it will become more complete quickly. The information has
been captured from the European RSA Directory questionnaires distributed to
European RSA members last year.
So, if you want to get in contact with someone working in Regional Science
in Europe, this is the place to look.
HOW TO ACCESS:
The European RSA member directory can be accessed in 3 ways:
- via FTP
- via WAIS
- via GOPHER.
FTP-ACCESS:
To access the directory through FTP (file transfer), do anonymous FTP to
FTP.WU-WIEN.AC.AT. Change to directory "/pub/regsci", get file "e-rsa.
addresses" (plain text-file).
WAIS-ACCESS:
Here is the wais-source:
(:source
:ip-address "wais.wu-wien.ac.at"
:tcp-port 210
:database-name "ersa"
:description "European Regional Science Association, member directory"
)
Connect your WAIS-client to "wais.wu-wien.ac.at" and query database "ersa".
GOPHER-ACCESS:
Either point your Gopher-client to "iir.wu-wien.ac.at" at port 70, or move
through the gopher-directories to
* Europe
* Austria
* University of Economics
* Institute, Abteilungen, Serviceeinrichtungen
* Institut fuer Raumplanung und Regionalentwicklung.
This gets you to the Gopher-server of the "Institute for Urban and Regional
Studies" of The University of Economics and Business Administration,
Vienna, Austria (WU-Wien). One entry there (among others) is the E-RSA
member directory. Gopher is the recommended mode of access, because it
contains the other two.
Once you are in the subdirectory, you can:
- read (download) the whole file,
- browse through the file by name of person,
- WAIS-search the file for any text string anywhere in the record.
WHAT IS IN THERE:
For each person there are 8 records:
1. Name
2. Position
3. Address
4. RSA-section
5. Phone
6. Fax
7. E-mail
8. Research interests
Of course, some records may be empty.
Here is an example:
NAME: Alderman, Dr Neil;
POSITION: Research Associate
ADDRESS: CURDS, University of Newcastle upon Tyne, Newcastle
NE1 7RU, UK.
SECTION: British
PHONE: (+44)-91-222-8017
FAX: (+44)-91-232-9259
EMAIL: nnfa at eata.ncl.ac.uk
RESEARCH: INNOVATION DIFFUSION; MANUFACTURING; PRODUCT
DEVELOPMENT; REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT; SURVEY
DESIGN/ANALYSIS; TECHNOLOGICAL CHANGE
Currently the data is mainly from the following sections: BRITISH, GERMAN
SPEAKING, NORDIC, HUNGARIAN, NETHERLANDS.
HOW TO GET ADDED:
If you are not in the database but think you should be in there because you
are a member of one of the European sections, send me an e-mail message
with information to the above 8 records.
My e-mail address: "Gunther.Maier at wu-wien.ac.at".
If your colleagues are not in there, tell them as well.
IN ANY CASE: Before you specify your research interests, get the file
"e-rsa.index" (through anonymous FTP or via Gopher). It lists all the
currently defined research interests. PLEASE, stay within this list (this
ensures that users can find you).
Hope you will find this service useful. Please send questions, comments,
suggestions, etc. to "Gunther.Maier at wu-wien.ac.at"
