OFFICE MEMO Budapest Seminar on New Tech Date: 1/11/94
Dear Colleagues:

A little over two years have passed since educators from 23 nations
gathered in Prague for the Third East/West Invitational Seminar on New
Technologies in Education. Together, we dreamed about the future of
education in a union of East and West, and were determined to do our part
to tear down the remaining walls of the Cold War.

As time passes, we become even more aware that the real hope for
improving our world lies in education. Nonetheless, educational
communities among the emerging democracies and the West are still isolated
from each other. This means that the work we started four years ago is
still timely and perhaps needed more than ever. Thus, we are very pleased
to announce our next seminar, the Fourth East/West Invitational Seminar on
New Technologies in Education.

We will meet from May 1-6, 1994, in Budapest, a city that so uniquely
interweaves Eastern and Western cultures and has the rich educational
traditions which gave the world so many outstanding scientists.

Over the past months, we struggled to find a site that could ensure the
adequate participation of colleagues from Eastern Europe, Russia, and the
former Soviet republics. We hope you agree that Budapest is a good choice
for the Fourth East/West Invitational Seminar on New Technologies in
Education.

The themes of the seminar are the following:

A. Technologies and School Reform: New Tools Demand New Models
B. Redefining The Role of the Teacher in the Information Age
C. The Telecommunication Revolution
D. Environmental Studies: A Unifying Theme for Global Education
E. Technological Innovation for a Multinational Community

Attendance is by invitation only. To receive an invitation, we ask that you
return the enclosed form as soon as possible. Since we are currently
preparing the list of invited guests, please recommend any persons you
feel would contribute to our educational goals.

Return the form to our Internet address:
budapest at uhavax.hartford.edu; or fax it to:  203-242-7002;

or mail it to us at:
International Technology Exchange, Box 49, Bloomfield, CT 06002 USA.

We look forward to your participation in what promises to be our most
productive meeting ever. If you have any questions or suggestions concerning
the content of the seminar, please contact us via one of the above.
			Sincerely,
On behalf of the International Organizing Committee:
