The International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) is
pleased to announce the general availability of their new Gopher server.
The IIASA Gopher will provide access to a range of information concerning
the research activities of the Institute (see the media release included
below for details). Please feel free to include references to the IIASA
Gopher in your own information servers. If you have any problems accessing
the IIASA Gopher server, or other comments, please don't hesitate to contact
our Gopher administrator.

                        Gopher: News From IIASA
               Now Available On A New Information Service

Laxenburg/Vienna (Austria) - 1 March 1994 - Journalists having access
to the Internet computer network can now learn more about the
International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) through a
new information service: Gopher is an electronic reference service
containing documents from institutions worldwide.  First set up by
universities, it now has documents from literally thousands of
academic and research institutions, government organizations, and
private firms.  In order to access the IIASA Gopher you will need a
copy of the gopher software available free of charge for DOS, UNIX,
and Macintosh systems from many Internet FTP archive sites.

The IIASA Gopher is located at the Internet address gopher.iiasa.ac.at.
Once you are connected to this service, it will provide you with information
on items such as:

        IIASA Press Releases - past and most recent;

        A short introduction to IIASA, including history, research
        work, and membership;

        IIASA's research work, including the current Research Plan and
        detailed descriptions of the research activities of the
        individual projects;

        A weekly timetable of conferences, workshops, seminars and
        visitors to IIASA, entitled "This Week at IIASA";

        The IIASA publications catalogue, which is searchable by
        keyword, project, subject,etc. and also includes a number of
        abstracts.

        Additional information will be made available in the near future.

Austria) is an interdisciplinary, non-governmental research
institution sponsored by a consortium of National Member Organizations
