Isn't e-mail wonderful?

E-mail can successfully link you up with potential employers,
colleagues and clients so long as you follow some simple do's
and don'ts.

DO write out your real name, especially if your e-mail address
spells out a nickname, like "carpetman at apart.net." This inspires
trust.

DON'T send e-mail as "attached files." Yes, I know, you slaved
away at a beautiful design for your business card or resume, but
as Jeanine Graf at The Job Show can attest, attached files too
often come out the other end as garbage.

DO write in a business-like way. Use complete sentences, look
back over your spelling, make sure you've explained yourself
clearly and avoid slang.

DON'T mass-mail. Even sending the jokes that made you crack up
out to everyone you know can backfire, irritating someone who
depends on e-mail for serious business purposes.

DO repeat the context when continuing a correspondence. Either
clarify what you mean by enigmatic comments like "Let's go with
suggestion number two" or tack the earlier exchange to the end
of your message.
