Subject: Getting into Lycos

Hello I-Searchers,

First time post. I wanted to comment about Roberta Klondike problem with
getting listed on Lycos.

>>but I cannot for the life of me get into Lycos.>>

I too have had the same problem and I found out why last night. There is a
web site that has a search engine forum that any body can read. Many of the
regulars are experts as far as I can tell.

This site http://www.virtualpromote.com/ I spent yesterday evening going
back the last 100 days of discussion and reading up on a particular search
engine. I came across this moment. "Lycos hasn't updated their index in
about 6 months and seems to have gone stale"

Hence the reason for not getting listed. May be a waste of time to submit
to Lycos until they get it together and start updating again.

Sincerely,
Todd Sumrall

Roberta Klondike asked:

Yahoo, but I cannot for the life of me get into Lycos. I'm a top 20 listing
on all the other SEs, many times I'm #1.>>

Nobody is getting into Lycos, it's not just you. I haven't seen any new
pages get in since around July of '98. Finally, getting sick of wondering
when they were going to do something about this, I wrote them an email the
other day. Here is the reply they sent me:
---------------------
Thanks for using Lycos! The index update process is currently underway, and
will be completed as quickly as possible. When the update is finished, all
of the sites which have been submitted to us and stored in our off line
index will be on line and searchable. This is also when any necessary
changes will take place, such as updates and deletions. Thank you for your
patience.

Personally, I won't use Lycos any more to do searches because I know that
if they haven't added or updated any changes since last July, then their
results have got to be totally stale. (And yet...their stock keeps going
up...go figure!)
