EUROTEL CONTINUES AID TO MORAVIA
EuroTel Praha company, which provided crisis teams and hundreds of mobile telephones for
rescuers, and transferred funds to the Czech Red Cross from various charity campaigns
during last year's July floods, continues to send aid to the affected region of Moravia.
At the end of 1997, EuroTel gave 3,000,000 CZK for the reconstruction of a primary school
in Česká Ves in Jesenicko. In order to help the people who were most affected by the
floods, EuroTel donated the proceeds from an auction of the clothes used in the EuroTel
Fashion Show (140,000 CZK) as well as the proceeds from a collection among the employees
and company partners (an additional donation of more than 140,000 CZK).
"Support from residents and local authorities in the flood-affected areas is not a
matter of one lump sum," said Iva Taťounová, press spokeswoman for EuroTel. "A
number of damaged schools, public buildings, and health facilities are still waiting for
reconstruction. Other financial assets will be needed for the renovation of housing and
roads, for example. Therefore, we are going to continue our aid to the most affected
communities and regions of Moravia this year as well."
EuroTel Praha Ltd is a joint venture of SPT TELECOM, Inc. (51%) and Atlantic West B.V.
(49%). Atlantic West B.V. is a company that is equally owned by Bell Atlantic (NYSE:BELL)
and US WEST International, which is a part of the US WEST Media Group (NYSE:UMG).
