EuroTel has another year
behind it, a year that was a success in every way. The economic indicators once again
demonstrate the continuous leading position of EuroTel in the Czech mobile communications
market.
From the time that EuroTel began operating on the Czech market in 1992, the number of its
customers has grown by a factor of 130. During 1998 alone, EuroTel gained more than
230,000 new customers, a year-on-year growth over 1997 of more than 65%. In other words,
an average of 4,500 new customers signed up for EuroTel services each week last year, or
900 new customers per day, not counting weekends.
At the end of 1998, EuroTel had more than 587,500 registered mobile phone owners using
the EuroTel GSM Global (98% population coverage) and T!P (99% population coverage) network
services. EuroTel thus provides its services to more than 60% of all mobile phone owners
in this country.
Additionally, continued growth in the number of customers during the first four months of
the year demonstrates the intense interest of the public in the services that EuroTel
provides. At the beginning of January the number of users of EuroTel's networks
exceeded 600,000, and in March we registered another 50,000. So in the first quarter
of 1999 an average of 5,200 new customers decided in favor of EuroTel's services, a daily
growth of more than 1,000 customers, again not counting weekends. April results are
even stronger with the total customer climbing to 675,000 as of April 29th.
EuroTel's financial indicators for 1998 surpassed expectations, with annual revenues of
14,6 billion crowns representing a growth of 41%. Compared with the year before, EuroTel's
profit more than doubled, reaching 3.33 billion crowns. Total amount of investment in
1998 reached 5,1 billion crowns, and the plan is to invest approximately the same amount
this year.
"Last year was the best year in EuroTel's history. These figures demonstrate our
customers reliance on EuroTel's quality, coverage and service," said Ed Kingman,
EuroTel's Managing Director. "Our prognosis for 1999 is that the market demand for
our services will continue to increase. EuroTel's continuous introduction of the latest
technologies and new services will insure that EuroTel customers continue to enjoy the
latest in world class service. "
