Short text messages are an ideal medium for transmitting a
brief message between GSM mobile phones. Sending such a brief message is not all that time
consuming--you type in the message on the mobile phone’s keypad in the respective menu,
enter the number of the target telephone, and send the message. Compiling a longer message
may, however, cause slight problems to a less experienced user. That’s why leading
mobile phone producers offer a solution aimed at simplifying and making work with short
text messages more pleasant. The essence of such a solution is SMS software (Short Message
Service) which is installed on your laptop or PC. This solution’s highlights are
appreciable especially by GSM mobile phone owners who frequently take advantage of short
text messages. SMS software is commonly broken down into two basic parts--one offers
messages of telephone directories stored in the SIM card memory or in the memory of the
mobile phone, and the other focuses on short text messages.
Telephone directories
Many of you surely store telephone numbers into the
memory of your mobile phone or SIM card. Using the SMS software, you can simply modify
your existing directories, create completely new directories designed for storage in PC
memory, or transfer entries between individual directories. If you create several
telephone directories in the computer and store them in memory, you can then save the
needed directory into the telephone’s memory. For instance, the Nokia program offers the
ability to save up to 2000 telephone numbers and corresponding personal information into
the memory of a PC.
Short Text Messages
SMS software programs will simplify work in sending and
receiving short text messages. When sending a text message, you no longer have to be
limited to you mobile phone’s keypad, but can use your PC keyboard, monitor and mouse.
You write the text message on the computer’s keyboard, check it on the monitor’s
screen, and then just press the button to send the message. The option of sending the
message to more than one address at once is an advantage. Just select the respective
telephone directory, click on the desired telephone numbers, and send the message in the
ordinary way. Last but not least, the standard message function is a nice touch. This
allows the user to create standard messages and save them to use again.
Programs offered
An example of software for working with short text
messages currently being offered by EuroTel Praha is the Dancall Editor from the Danish
company Dancall. This software is designed for all Dancall mobile phones sold by EuroTel
Praha, specifically the HP 2711, EuroTel XL 110, and the HP 2731 models. Currently under
consideration is the option of offering Cellular Ware from the Finish company Nokia, which
is designed for Nokia 2110 and Nokia 8110 models. Talks are underway with Ericsson.
FAX BOX
EuroTel is preparing for its customers a new
service--the fax box--which is essentially an expansion of the voice mail you know so well
to include the ability to work with fax messages. This service will be available to
customers who use either EuroTel GSM Global or EuroTel Classic communication systems.
On what respect does the fax box improve voice mail?
In addition to other things, it makes the following possible:
-receiving fax messages in your voice mail
-sending fax messages when you want and to the fax number you want
-creating personal telephone directories and sending messages to personal directories
-sending responses to messages left on your voice mail or forwarding them to the number or
group of numbers you want.
In practice that means that you own a box where anyone can send a fax document to you and
which lets you send fax documents. One fax message may contain up to 10 pages of text or
pictures and may be additionally supplemented with voice commentary. If you’re
frequently on the road and don’t have access to your fixed fax, you can’t even be
informed about new fax messages. Everything is easier with the fax box. All fax messages
are delivered to your box and you are automatically informed via a short text message or
call-back. You can also have the delivered message printed by forwarding it to your choice
of a fax machine or have it sent to your computer. That is possible assuming your mobile
phone is connected to your PC or laptop. From your computer you can then send any text or
picture documents to your clients´ or co-workers´ boxes immediately by mobile phone. The
necessity to print the message and send it via the classical means through a fax machine
is circumvented. You can also select a time schedule for when the fax messages are to be
delivered automatically. Another indisputable benefit of the fax box are the personal
directories. You’ll especially appreciate this function if you send a given message to
more than one person at once. All you have to do it create the message in the fax box and
enter the personal directory number. The box then sees to delivering the message to all
the numbers contained in the personal directory.
Many more advantages offered by the fax box could be named. If you work frequently with
fax messages, this system will save you lots of work. |
