HELP TO FLOODED MORAVIA

EuroTel provided communications network operation in the flooded Moravia.

The floods caused cuts in the supplies of electrical energy to base stations. A team has been formed which went to Olomouc where the team's technicians renewed the network operation. The first power generators were delivered to Moravia on 7th July. At nine base stations, the supply of electrical energy had to be secured by power generators. 264 NMT mobile phones were dispatched to Moravia from Prague, and hundreds more were supplied by shops in Ostrava. Our technicians had to be transported by the army to some inaccessible base stations since there was no other way. The key point for all of Moravia is the base station with a controller in Ostrava - Hoštíkovice, where a huge military power generator was delivered. After the flooding of the telephone exchange at the Crises Center in Olomouc, mobile phones provided the only chance for communication. This, however caused an immediate overload of the base stations. Therefore, it became necessary to increase the density of base stations. An additional NMT exchange was installed in Přerov. A power generator was moved to the flooded town of Uherské Hradiště. Operation of base stations was secured by power generators. The situation was stabilized and mobile communications in Moravia worked.
