| SIM TOOLKIT - a breakthrough in understanding the SIM card’s capability and functions
Communication between mobile phones and the
SIM card is continually happening based on commands given by the mobile phone to the SIM
card which is capable of logging the mobile phone onto the GSM network or saving a list of
telephone numbers. In today’s world of mobile communication, a standardized means was
recently globally created to enable these indispensable “parts“ of mobile calling to
communicate among themselves in the future. New standards make it possible for the SIM
card to be the agent which will give commands to the mobile phone which will then
        immediately discharge them.

 | This kind of communication, however, requires SIM cards
with expanded functions and the SIM TOOLKIT which needs an increased memory volume
capacity. It is also unconditionally essential that the SIM cards with SIM TOOLKIT be
entered into mobile phones which also support SIM TOOLKIT. The reason the SIM cards need
an increased memory volume capacity is primarily for SIM TOOLKIT application which are
capable of coding transmitted short text messages. This may be useful for various banking
applications and processes which demand a high degree of security. It is also possible to
skim through the new entries in the SIM cards and send SMS messages pre-defined using them
or to play new melodies as is shown in the picture.
If is assumed that SIM TOOLKIT applications will find their maximal use in the new menu
setting and skimming through the menu. For customers, that will mean simplified access to
new services offered by EuroTel Praha via the GSM InfoText service. It will not longer be
necessary to remember the way to various information (an example of perusing the menu is
        shown in the picture).

At present, GO cards represent the first fruits of this new means of communicating between
a SIM card and mobile phone. They aren’t equipped with the SIM TOOLKIT, but rather a
special program which makes it possible to process and execute the incoming SMS messages.
That means that they can be controlled “by air“ and are even based on this principle.
If you buy a GO card for, say, 1000 CZK, and register with the GSM network using the
number on it, the operator will send back to your GO card a SMS message with the order to
fill your telephone with 1000 CZK. The SIM card fills the order and you can place calls.

The main reason for deciding to implement the SIM TOOLKIT to SIM cards is their relatively
low cost compared to the costs of mobile phones.

How fast SIM cards with implemented SIM TOOLKIT become standard for every mobile phone
depends on many circumstances. First and foremost, however, on mobile phone producers. If
they decide to establish this means of communication as the standard, then the cost of
telephones using SIM TOOLKIT will approach a level acceptable to the general public.
