EuroTel Trophy
...even the president had his fingers crossed!

The grand opening ceremony was held in the Archa Theater with the attendance of both grand masters. The program also included a nontraditional chess pre-dance entitled CHECK-MATE. A very original drawing followed. The grand masters chose their piece colors by using six mobile phones-only two of which contained a EuroTel SIM card. If one player drew an active telephone, then it was just a matter of who he called-a dancer in a white or black costume. Garry Kasparov was not successful in his first choice, whereas Jan Timman drew an active telephone immediately. However, when he called a dancer in black, it was clear that Kasparov would start the game.

There was great interest in the entire match. It wasn't an exception when people couldn't fit into the 700-seat capacity hall. Of course, they could watch the chess grand masters on a screen in front of the theater and in the vestibule. Even a number of popular personalities came to watch the EuroTel Trophy. Among them were Petra Buzková, Jan Kalvoda, Roman Eeška and Jioí Stivín. Not even Ivan Lendl´s father missed a single day. Even President Václav Havel sent a pleasant greeting to the participants and organizers of the entire event. In the end, Garry Kasparov became the champion of the EuroTel Trophy which enriched his collection of other trophies with the beautiful cut-glass cup from EuroTel. As he accepted the prize, he confessed that the tournament's atmosphere and Prague itself really impressed him and that he would gladly return to visit again.
Thanks to EuroTel´s making it possible to follow this contest on the Internet as well, fans from all over the world were able to witness this magnificent chess event.


EuroTel presented the Galaxy Space Show

2nd EuroTel Women's Open!
On Friday, September 25, 1998, in the Sparta tennis hall in Prague's Stromovka, the second annual EuroTel Women's Open 98 tennis tournament took place. As the tournament's main partner, EuroTel made it possible for all of this white sport's enthusiastic supporters to watch this interesting tennis tournament and exhibition for free. The tournament was attended by a number of prominent personalities. For tennis fans, certainly the highlight was the exhibition doubles match between Martina Navrátilová and her mother against our former tennis player Jana Tomanová-Vojtíšek with Helena Vondráeková.
EuroTel also used this occasion to assist one of the oldest parks in Prague-Stromovka. The donation of 200,000 CZK which it gave for the Pahorek project will go to aid in the renovation of the natural environment in this park and thus to the conservation of the precious green locality in the middle of the city.

The tournament's results were announced that same evening in the Municipal Building with the attendance of the EuroTel deputy executive director Jamie Macdonald who awarded Martina Navrátilová an exclusive Nokia 8810 mobile phone as an expression of recognition for her lifetime tennis accomplishments and as thanks for participating in the tournament. Martina Navrátilová thus entered the rankings prominent personalities who use EuroTel services.


Invex Computer 98

Just like a number of other companies, not even EuroTel Praha passed up the chance to present itself and, more importantly, its products at the INVEX Computer trade show which took place October 5-9 at the Brno fair grounds. Visitors surely noticed the EuroTel´s massive participation. A eventful program took place in the center of pavilion Z on 210m2.

This year's EuroTel products were presented here-the Nokia 8810 mobile phone and the Business Messaging Gateway service, and other products and services whose presentation was complimented by the DFC Fashion Group modeling agency. An interesting video program was shown on a big screen to inform views of all the offered services, including the presentation of SMS and Data services, and last but not least, an interview with famous personalities of the social scene. It was complete with a drawing for a GO package and other attractive prizes. On the free area in front of the pavilion, visitors could try out the GO package or be part of the impressive trial-bike exhibition by Martin Šimunek by the EuroTel Truck.
We are already looking forward to seeing you at next year's INVEX Computer 99, which will be held on October 4-8, 1999.


Fall EuroTel truck roadshow

This fall's regular EuroTel roadshow-with the specially equipped conference trailer in EuroTel colors-was accompanied by all large-size exhibition and trade-show events (INVEX, FOR HABITAT, AUTOSHOW, MEDIA) which guarantee heavy visitorship. The various exhibits and trade fairs were used to promote EuroTel products and services so that the offering corresponded with the focus of the given trade show or exhibition. The Handsfree package was presented in this way at the AUTOSHOW exhibition in Prague. The entire roadshow was supported also by sales of GO packages with a gift directly from the EuroTel Truck, by a contest program for prizes and by a sporting and dance exhibition.

The EuroTel Truck's stop in Liberec was especially interesting for the media since a Boney M concert was in the making. During the day, the normal EuroTel Truck show was held, followed by a press conference with Boney M band members (see the photo). The entire fall roadshow enjoyed extraordinary interest from the spectators. This gave thousands of people the chance to become acquainted with the constant and updated offering of EuroTel services and products.
