Most of us have enthusiastically welcomed mobile phones and now take them for granted. And
so today we make phone calls without a moment's thought, literally from anywhere and at
any time. So why not also get used to hearing the voices of one's friends and family or
business partners in as clear a quality as possible, even if calling from the car or on
the street?
In the middle of January this year, EuroTel took a further major step towards perfecting
the quality of its services and clearly showed once again that customer satisfaction is
its primary goal. The improvement in the quality of call transmission in the GSM Global
network was achieved with the help of SuperSound, the next generation of GSM technology.
This has made EuroTel one of the few mobile phone network operators in the world that
offers its customers this advantage.
Behind the SuperSound name we find the advanced EFR (Enhanced Full Rate) digital encoding
technology, which enables clearer transmission of conversation. The quality of sound
transmission is roughly twice as good as the original technology and experts compare it to
the difference between the sound produced by compact disc and vinyl records. The EFR
system makes voices sound more natural and easier to identify, so it is particularly
useful for calls made from the car or on the street.

EuroTel is the first and only operator
providing SuperSound quality of call transmission in the Czech Republic and it offers this
technology to all users of the GSM Global network for free, without any extra charges or
fees! This approach is not even customary abroad: in Great Britain, for example, operators
make the activation of EFR conditional upon a special extra payment or they only provide
it in combination with more expensive tariff schemes.
EuroTel has already implemented the SuperSound technology in its GSM networks. For
customers to enjoy the benefits of the enhanced digital sound, however, they must use
mobile phones that are compatible with EFR. The EFR standard is currently supported by
Nokia and Ericsson phones (Nokia 5110, Nokia 6110, Nokia 6510, Nokia 8810, Ericsson GA628,
Ericsson GH688, Ericsson GF768, Ericsson GF788e, Ericsson SH888). In the first quarter of
this year EuroTel intends to launch four new EFR-compatible mobile phones. |
