News Release from EUnet, distributed today 5th August 1994.

For Immediate Release

EUnet puts the European Championships in Athletics onto the Internet

Helsinki; 5th August 1994: EUnet, the leading European Internet service
provider, has established an on-line information service providing world-wide
access to up-to-the-minute coverage of the European Championships in Athletics
to be held in Helsinki, 8-16th August. The service will mix text, sound,
still pictures and moving images to provide an interactive information service
for on-line audiences.

The recent coverage over the Internet of the Lillehammer Winter Olympics
and the soccer World Cup USA '94 have shown that new, networked electronic
services are very effective supplements to traditional, non-interactive
broadcast and printed media.

Using the Internet, people from all over the world will be able to find out
not only the latest results, but also additional background information,
pictures of the participants and events, references to sources for more
information and particular reports and stories. The reader selects the
information to view, at any time and from any place.

The service is provided using technology known as the World Wide Web. This
enables viewers to read information on-screen page by page. Clicking with the
mouse on highlighted text and pictures brings up new, related information to
the viewer's computer screen, thus providing a fast and efficient research
tool.

The Helsinki games service will offer:

- - Information about the games and the organisational aspects

- - Profiles on participating teams and individual athletes

- - Event schedules

- - Up-to-the-minute results

- - Information on the venue and surroundings (accommodation details, maps,
  tourist information etc.)

The EUnet service is accessible using the locator
"http://helsinki94.eunet.fi".

The EUnet World Wide Web service is accessible from all Internet-connected
desktops. The anticipated popularity of the service means that EUnet has set
up load balancing mirror sites in many European countries, as well as in the
USA.
