Subject: NEW: online-news - Electronic Newspapers and Magazines

online-news on Majordomo at marketplace.com

   Electronic newspapers and magazines

Online-news is a new Internet mailing list on the topic of online
newspapers and magazines. It will serve as a forum to discuss the
evolution of newspaper and magazine experiments in electronic
publishing. It also will become the place in cyberspace where
professionals working to design electronic publications of the future
can meet to get to know each other and exchange ideas.

Two years ago, there were only a few newspapers and magazines
operating online services. Today there are more than 40 newspapers
and numerous magazines with electronic "editions." Many more --
perhaps most -- publishers today are taking a serious look at
   opportunities for going digital.

Online-news will cover the various avenues publishers have taken on
this journey, from the commercial services -- America Online,
CompuServe, Delphi and Prodigy -- to independent BBSs, to the
   Internet.

This is the place to discuss what works and what doesn't, how to
integrate these services into the newsroom, how to train and recruit
staff for these new ventures, advertising issues, software, potential
readership, how to make money with electronic editions, job postings,
   etc.

   WHAT THIS LIST IS *NOT*:
   ------------------------
Online-news is NOT a general journalism discussion list. Its subject
matter is limited to electronic publications. If you are looking for
a more general journalism forum, try CARR-L (Computer Assisted
Reporting and Research, carr-l at ulkyvm.louisville.edu); Journet
(journet at qucdn.queensu.ca); NIT (New Information Technologies,
nit at chron.com); or Journal-Net (International Journalist Network,
journal-net at planet.org). Also, alt.journalism on Usenet is a good
   general interest journalism newsgroup.

   WHO SHOULD SUBSCRIBE:
   ---------------------
While the topic of this list will primarily interest print
journalists and news executives involved in online services of their
publications, we welcome participation from all journalists,
