What are short
text messages?
One of the key capabilities of GSM mobile phones is the
ability to receive and send short text messages (SMS). A short text message consists of
letters, digits, punctuation and possibly other symbols. Its maximum length is 160
characters.
What services do we
offer?
If you have the Text Service activated (click here for the activation process), you can send short messages from your
GSM mobile phone to any GSM mobile phone, either in the EuroTel GSM Global network, or to
other domestic and foreign mobile telephone networks that support this service.
Activating the Text Service also gives you the possibility of using the extensive GSM InfoText information services based on communication
using short text messages. You can also use the SMS Plus
service, which expands the communication capabilities of your mobile phone to include faxing,
sending e-mails and sending messages to pagers.
As well as sending short messages from your GSM mobile phone, you can send them using SMS Gate from the Internet, both by e-mail and from
EuroTel Praha’s website.
Procedure for
sending a text message
on the menu of your mobile phone select write text message and
write the message you intend to send to another GSM mobile phone. Write the text by
pressing the numbers on your keypad in the right order.
enter the number of the
GSM mobile phone the message is to be sent to.
You can enter the telephone number of the recipient in the EuroTel GSM Global network (and
abroad) in the following form: 0602 XXX XXX or 0606 XXX XXX
for recipients in
other GSM networks use the international code: +ICC YYY XXX XXX
ICC … means the
international country dialling code
YYY … means the network operator’s prefix
XXX XXX … means the last six digits of the message recipient’s telephone number (e.g.
+421 905 123 456 is: +421 … Slovakia, 0905 … Globtel mobile telephone operator, 123
456 … network subscriber’s telephone number)
enter the SMS Centre’s number in the appropriate
setting of your GSM mobile phone in this form: +420 602 909 909.
The ”SMS Centre ” can have a different name in your mobile phone, e.g. Messages
Centre, Message Centre Number, Service Centre etc.
We recommend that you save the centre’s number in your phone’s memory – then you
won’t have to enter it every time you send a message!
send the message by
selecting the appropriate command in the telephone’s menu (you will find specific
details in the guide to using your mobile phone).
Delivery of the
text message
Once sent from the phone the text message travels to EuroTel
Praha’s SMS Centre, which instantaneously delivers it to the target mobile phone. If the
delivery fails, e.g. the target phone is switched off, the Centre automatically tries to
re-send the message for a period of 24 hours. In this way the text message is delivered to
the target phone immediately it is switched on. If the message has still not been
delivered 24 hours later, it is erased from the SMS Centre.
Delivery
confirmation
When sending a message you can request confirmation of
delivery. Most GSM mobile phones offer this function in the telephone’s menu; in other
types confirmation can be pre-assigned by inserting four ”Y” symbols, i.e. YYYY
without gaps, before the text of the message. The initial symbols are not sent with the
message.”
* NB: Do not use this function (do not enter) with GSM InfoText, SMS Reminder
and SMS Plus!
Text messages and
re-routing the mobile phone
You can use short text messages to communicate discretely,
even if you have re-routed all your calls to your voice message recorder (e.g. if you do
not want to be disturbed by long phone calls). This is because text messages are also
delivered to telephones that are actively re-routing calls!
Short text messages
to and from abroad
You can send your text messages in the ordinary way to other
mobile phone operators in foreign (domestic) GSM networks that EuroTel Praha has a roaming
agreement with and that supports SMS. Also, if you are abroad you can send and receive
text messages, provided that the international roaming service is activated and the other
operator supports SMS.
Suitable types of
mobile phone
All mobile phones offered by EuroTel Praha can receive text
messages and the vast majority of them can also send them. The following telephones cannot
offer send short text messages: Motorola 7500, Ericsson GH 318 and the Nokia 1610 limited
series.
Activating
text services

has automatically been activated for you. If you are a user of one of the three EuroTel
GSM Global services programmes, you can activate SMS in one of the following ways:
Via the voice information system (without using the operator).
Follow these steps: Dial *11 (Customer Care Department) > 1 (communication in Czech)

(introducing or changing services) > YYYXXXXXX# (your mobile phone number) > YYYYYY#
(your six-digit identification number) > 4 (introducing SMS)
Via the Customer Care
